Wednesday St Francis Class

Wednesday 3rd March 2021

Good morning everyone. We hope you are all okay and are ready for a new day of learning. Here is our plan for today:

9:30 – 10:30: Live phonics session with Mrs Cull. You will need a pencil and a piece of paper. This is what we will be doing today:

  1. Revision of Set 1 sounds

2. Speedy writing – you will need a pen or felt tip for this part so I can see your writing on camera!

3. Helping Fred create some words by putting the sounds together

4. Making words using our phonics chart and reading to check

5. Fred Talking and blending sounds on green word cards and developing the skill of ‘Fred in our head’

6. Spelling words using our Fred Fingers

7. Writing these words – you will need your pen and piece of paper for this

11:00 – 12:00 Maths: Today, we are going to be using string to measure ourselves. Cut a piece of string the length of your body and think about the following things:

  • Where will you start the string from?
  • Where will you cut the string?
  • Does the string have to be straight or wiggly?

Can you find something that is the same length as your body? Take some pictures to show me your findings.

1:00-1:45 Welly Wednesday: This afternoon, we are going to create our own ‘That’s Not My Snail’. First, I would like to create a cut out snail, like mine. Next, take it outside. Use it to investigate different textures and say why that’s not my snail. For example, ‘That’s not my snail, it’s shell is too rough’.

1:45 – 2:30 PE: In PE today, I would like you to think about the movement of a whale. Watch some of the video below (it’s very long, you don’t need to watch it all!). Are they fast or slow? Are the movements of their body fast or slow? How do they move along? Travel around like a whale.

2:30 – 3:00 Storytime with Mrs Cull, end of day prayer and goodbye song

11:00 – 12:00 Maths: For our Maths session today, we are going to be exploring 9 and 10. By the end of the session, we will know that one more than 9 is 10 and one less than 10 is 9. First, I would like you to create your tens frame. You can draw it out or use sticks. How many ways can you represent 9 and then 10? How many more do you have to add to your 9 to create 10?

1:00-1:45 PE: Today, we are going to put all our movements together and perform our dance. Follow along with my movement map to remind yourself of each part.

Remember, you can move your body in any way that you want. The most important part is to have fun. Once you are happy with your dance routine, add it to the music. We are going to create a special seating area for our audience at school. You could do the same at home. Please send in videos of your fantastic dance routines; we would love to see them.

1:45 – 2:30 Welly Wednesday:  In today’s session, I would like you to use all of your senses. Go outside…What can you see? What can you hear? What can you feel? What can you smell? Draw your findings on a piece of paper.

2:30 – 3:00 Story time with Mrs Cull, end of day prayer and goodbye song.

11:00 – 12:00 Maths:  Today, we are going to be exploring different ways of making 8 using our part, part whole method. First, I would like you to draw a part, part, whole template like mine.

Next, I need you to help me work out my sums. You can use any resources you like.

7+1 =?

4+4=?

1+7=?

5+3=?

What did you find out about my sums? What number do they all equal?

1:00-1:45 PE: Today, we are going to be continuing our Gingerbread Man dance routine. Our focus for today is going to be the baking part. So, get your Gingerbread Man cutter ready and cut out you Gingerbread Man from your dough. Remember, we are using our imagination so feel free to experiment with different movements using your whole body. Now, put your Gingerbread Man into the oven and turn it on.

Suddenly, we are the Gingerbread Man! Hop out of the oven. Think about how our body might move now. Will it be tall and upright? Or, will it bend? Will we move slowly or fast? Now put your movements to our music.

1:45 – 2:30 Welly Wednesday: Each Wednesday, we are going to be putting on our wellies and going on an outdoor adventure! Today, I would like to collect lots of different natural objects and create your own Gingerbread Man sculpture. Look at the pictures below to give you some ideas.

These sculptures have been created by Andy Goldsworthy. He has used natural resources. What else can you find out about Andy Goldsworthy?

2:30 – 3:00 Story time with Mrs Cull, end of day prayer and goodbye song.
