Purpose of study
Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Pupils use creativity and imagination, to design and make products. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative and enterprising. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. Design and Technology is an integral part of all subject areas and where possible links to the Cornerstones Curriculum.
The aims of teaching Design and Technology at St Thomas More Catholic First School is that all children will:
¨ Find enjoyment in creative art and technology.
¨ Develop skills to use a wide range of materials and techniques competently.
¨ Feel able to express their ideas and feelings through imaginative creation in both two and three dimensions.
¨ Learn to study the world around them analytically.
¨ Develop an appropriate vocabulary to help them understand and discuss their own work and that of others.
¨ Appreciate and evaluate a range of work from their own and other cultures.
¨ Critically evaluate their own work.
At St Thomas More our aim is raise the profile of Design and Technology to enable children to become more confident in this area.
