Curriculum INTENT

1) Our Geography curriculum is ambitious and designed to give all pupils, particularly disadvantaged pupils and including pupils with SEND, the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

2) It is coherently planned and sequenced towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge and skills for future learning and employment.

3) The curriculum is successfully developed to be ambitious and meet the needs of pupils with SEND, developing their knowledge, skills and abilities to apply what they know and can do with increasing fluency and independence.

High-quality geography education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.’

The school will:

  • Develop children’s contextual understanding of the locations of places, seas and oceans.
  • Develop children’s knowledge and understanding of places globally significant.
  • Help children to understand the processes that give rise to physical and human geographical features of the world.
  • Develop children’s understanding of how human and physical features are interdependent and how they change over time.
  • Develop their geographical skills needed to collect, analyse and communicate their understanding and research.
  • Use fieldwork to deepen children’s understanding of geographical processes.
  • Develop children’s skills to interpret a range of geographical processes
  • Develop children’s skills to interpret a range of geographical information including maps, diagrams, globes and aerial photographs.
  • Teach the children to communicate geographical information in a variety of ways.
