Curriculum Overview
Aims

To nurture and develop well rounded positive, responsible and caring individuals.

To make learning fun and give children opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills in order to achieve their full potential.

To enable children to work cooperatively with others, develop their independence and foster their creativity.
In order to achieve the above we need to ensure children:
- Have firm foundations of basic skills which they can use and apply.
- Have a broad range of exciting and creative opportunities to discover and nurture their individual talents.
- Develop a set of core Catholic values.
- Have access and opportunity to achieve their full potential, whilst developing their sense of uniqueness, confidence and self- worth.
- Develop their awareness of caring for their surrounding environment and the wider world.
- Appreciate and value the contributions made by all ethnic groups in our multi – cultural society.
St Thomas More Catholic First School’s curriculum encompasses the following:
- The National Curriculum core and foundation subjects, which are brought to life through an engaging, inspiring and creative curriculum.
- RE (which is delivered through the “Learning and growing as the children of God”, Personal Social Health Education, (PSHE) and Citizenship.
- TenTen “Life to the Full” RHE programme.
- A programme of enrichment and extra curricula activities which include creative and physical opportunities. For example: music tuition, sports coaching, arts and crafts, foreign language.
Our Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we teach, believe and celebrate. So that we are able to become God’s Servant First.

Forest school update; Mrs. Hinton would like to extend her thanks to all of the parents, friends and community who kindly donated B&Q vouchers to school following a fundraising campaign. She spoke to the children about what they would like her to use the vouchers for and they decided on fruit and vegetable plants and a herb garden. Just look at the wonderful wood cookie labels. We are so proud of our Treetop Tuesdays and cannot wait to sample the fruits as they grow. Thank you all, Mrs.Hinton and the children at STM 🍓

After having had 24 hours to reflect, unpack, soak in a bubble bath and cuddle our loved ones, it’s time for a few final words from me about our PGL trip this weekend. I just want to thank each and every one of you for trusting us with your children for a whole weekend (then some!) and letting us take them on this incredible adventure. We had an absolute blast. You must know that our group leaders, activity leaders, catering staff and night wardens all commented on how polite, well-mannered and happy your children were! This made us so so proud of them all. As parents ourselves we know how much it means to hear this from other people too so please do thank them all from us. We hope that on unpacking you found most of your child’s own clothes and belongings. We hope you enjoyed the pictures and videos. Apologies for the mud, the damp and the goodness knows what. The clothes can be washed…but our PGL memories will last a lifetime. We could not be more proud of the wonderful young people you’ve raised. We took away 37 Year 4s and returned with children who are more than ready for Middle school. Thank you children for the fun, the laughter, the singing and stories. And thank you to Mrs.Churchill, Mrs. Lloyd, Miss Thaker, Mr.Quinn and Mrs.McNally for making it all possible. You are all amazing. Go Team STM! 🚀 Mrs. R
