Purpose of study
Art and design is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Pupils are engaged, inspired and challenged; equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of Art and design. Art and design is linked with the topic that the children are learning and is an integral part of all subject areas.
The aims of teaching Art and Design at St Thomas More Catholic First School is that all children will:
¨ Find enjoyment in Art and design to stimulate imagination and creativity .
¨ Develop skills to use a wide range of materials and techniques competently.
¨ Communicate what they see, think and feel through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials, techniques, media and processes.
¨ Explore ideas and meanings through the work of artists and designers, with historical and cultural understanding.
¨ Develop an appropriate vocabulary to help them understand and discuss their own work and that of others.
¨ Experience and use a range of media and equipment.
¨ Become involved in shaping their environments through art and design activities.
¨Have an appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts.
