St Bernadette Spring 1 Week 1

Published by cchurchill on

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school this week after the Christmas and New Year break. They have all arrived back to school full of enthusiasm and ready to learn. We have lots of exciting things to learn about this half term.

In RE, we finished our unit of work on Christmas and focused on the journey to Bethlehem. The children thought about the difficulties Mary and Joseph faced and why it was a difficult time for Joseph. They also learned about the Wise Men’s journey and we talked about Epiphany.

In maths, the children have been subtracting using a number line. They subtracted a 1 digit number from a 2 digit number by partitioning the 1 digit number and then bridging to the nearest multiple of 10. They also subtracted a 2 digit number from a 2 digit number by partitioning the second number into tens and ones and subtracting the ones and then the tens. They also subtracted tens from any number.

In science, the children learned about animals (including humans) and that they give birth to offspring that look like them but may change in appearance as they grow. They also learned that some animals change completely.

Congratulations to our award winners this week:

Mary has shown that she is curious by asking lots of questions about the meaning of new vocabulary in RE.
Michael has shown that he is active by participating in some fantastic discussions at his table.
Juan is the star of the week as he has been contributing in every lesson and his confidence is growing.
Cole has been using his phonics knowledge to spell this week.
Leon is handwriter of the week. He is working really hard on his letter formation.
