St Bernadette Week 2 and 3

Published by cchurchill on

What a busy two weeks we have had. The children are really enjoying hearing the story ‘Winter’s Child’ and they have enjoyed lots of writing opportunities using the book as a stimulus. They have been learning the setting description and this week they imitated it. They have written a character description using previously learned skills, such as possessive apostrophes, similes and expanded noun phrases.

In maths, the children have been learning how to use the inverse operation to solve missing number problems, comparing numbers, using number facts to find related facts, identifying number bonds to 100 and adding 2 digit numbers and 10’s, with and without a place value chart.

Our science topic this half term is all about the environment. The children have been thinking about the importance of recycling and why we should reduce, reuse and recycle. They have learned about climate change and carried out an experiment to see how and why ice melts in certain conditions.

In art this week, the children practised their sketching skills. They are sketching an image of a boy that looks like the Winter’s Child from our English text.

There is a SATs information evening for year 2 parents on Monday 22nd November. There will be two sessions at 3pm and 6pm. If you attend the 3pm session the children can be kept in a classroom whilst you attend the meeting. If you attend at 6pm please do not bring your child as the meeting is for parents only.

Congratulations to our recent award winners. Keep up the great work.

Have a lovely weekend.
