St Thomas Week beginning 5th July. Week 5

Published by SMillward on

We had an amazing start to the week with our pupils of the term and pupil of the year. As usual it was an incredibly tough decision as the class are all super stars.

Well done to our pupil of the year-Molly May!

For a great work ethic and putting 100% effort into everything you do.

We want to say a big well done to Charlie and Dexxy-our pupils of the term.

For working hard in all subjects and both really trying throughout Year 2.

We have had such a busy week in St Thomas Class. In Maths, we have been learning about fractions and how to find one half and one quarter of a shape and a quantity.

We have also completed our RHE unit where we looked the life cycle of a human being and worked in groups to sort photos of babies, children, teenagers, adults and the elderly.

We have also been learning about different symbols of local area maps. We looked at an ordnance survey map of the West Midlands. We used the key on the map to identify different elements. The children really loved looking at the map and finding Redditch and where our school is.

In Science this week we looked at the progress of our bean seeds. We finally found out why our control pot wasn’t growing…an animal of some kind had dug it out so it had been sat there empty for 2 weeks!!! We have now re-potted a seed to leave out in the sunshine and it is being watered regularly. We are hoping there will be a healthy shoot in our final week. The children were excited to see what was happening with our plant that was being watered but kept in darkness. It has grown to a whopping 30cm but is looking very sorry for itself indeed. It is pale in colour and very floppy. We have discussed why we think this is happening and recorded all the recent results in our table.

We also had some free time this week as we have worked extremely hard and have a loved being able to ‘choose’ some activities.

Finally, a big well done also to Emily and Jacob who received certificates in our Virtues and Values assembly…

Have a lovely weekend everybody!
