St Bernadette Summer 2 Week 1

Published by cchurchill on

Welcome back to a new half term. It is hard to believe that we only have a few more weeks together in year 2, so we are definitely going to make the most of it.

As always, the children have been busy learning lots of new things.

In maths, we have started a new unit of work on fractions. The children learned what the numerator and denominator are and looked at how to recognise fractions of shapes. They also recapped previous work on 2D and 3D shapes, as this unit was completed whilst most of the children were learning at home during lockdown. This is to ensure their knowledge and understanding is secure and I am pleased to say they remembered quite a lot.

In English, we have started a new unit of work based around a text called ‘The Wonder’ by Faye Hanson. The children will be learning to write character descriptions, initially based on the character from the story. To start off our unit, the children drew a picture just like the main character about anything that they wonder about. They also were very surprised to receive a letter from the main character who we have now discovered is called Ben. Straight away the children asked if they could write back to him so we will be doing that over the next week.

In RE, the new unit of work is called ‘Our Church’. The children thought about all the things they already know about the Church and they learned about some of the symbols associated with a Catholic Church.

In science, the children learned about the job of different parts of a plant and during this unit of work on plants, the children will be observing changes to a plant as it grows.
