Year 2 Acer Class Page

Summer Term

We have had an extremely busy few weeks in year two and we cannot believe how fast this half term is going!  Some of the things we have been doing include: role playing the events of the Resurrection and making Paschal candles in RE, observing the changes to our sunflowers and thinking about why they have/haven’t grown well in science, becoming authors in literacy and writing our own alternative ending to The Flower story and learning how to tell the time in maths (which the children in Silver Birch class are all very good at).  The children also recreated their own Van Gogh Sunflowers pictures in art.  The standard was extremely high and I was very impressed with how much care the children took to ensure they produced a lovely piece of artwork.

As the Key Stage one assessments have been taking place this week, and will continue next week, Silver Birch and Acer class have been working together on some exciting STEM projects.  They have created their own skeletons and learnt about parts of the human body, made maths board games on a maths topic of their choosing and today they have completed a range of phonics, maths, art and problem solving activities based on the theme of the Royal Wedding.

Our whole school Royal Wedding celebrations continued this afternoon when the whole school went outside on the field and we shared cakes, biscuits, juice and played with the outdoor equipment.

Spring Term

This half term, Acer class have been busy learning and having fun at the same time! In maths, they have been getting to grips with finding equal groups using numicon, cubes and beads!

Last week, they had a visit from the amazing, Weird and Wonderful team! They met several unusual, interesting animals. Acer class thoroughly enjoyed the visit and were brave enough to stroke the animals!

This week has been so busy with all of our performances of A Midwife Crisis…Acer class loved the production and I’m sure you will all agree how fantastic each and every one of them were!

Over the last few weeks we have really enjoyed acting out some of the bible stories that we have been listening to for our RE topic ‘Sharing in the life of Jesus’…

The children loved making their rockets today. They all tried very hard to match their products to their design!

This week the children enjoyed an assembly given by Severn Trent Water. We learnt all about how we get clean water in our homes and also some tips for saving our precious water.

Some of us even got to join in with the assembly…

This week we have been getting to grips with place value. We have used Place Value Charts to partition 2 and 3-digit numbers…

We have had a fantastic time settling into our new classroom. We have been learning lots and have been enjoying the book ‘Man on the Moon (a day in the life of Bob).  In the first week alone we made Space Slime and Rock Cakes (because these are Bob’s favourite!) and we also had a crash-landing from a Meteorite!
